How Do I Meet People?
Often, small groups of people are better able to interact and learn about a topic than larger groups are. For that reason, our church has small Bible studies held in member homes. The size of the group is anywhere from six to twelve people. At a time designated by your group leader you can participate in the small group study.
Each Sunday morning, children get to participate in their own classes. Bible lessons are taught in such a way that every child gets to participate and learn. Each of the class teachers is carefully screened and thoroughly trained in children’s instruction. The youth ministry of our church is recognized for their meaningful interaction with kids.
Life can get complicated once you cross that nebulous threshold into adulthood. There are complicated decisions. Bigger stakes. Serious relationships. And a whole lot more decisions. The young adult group of our church provides a welcoming atmosphere for college and early-career aged young people.
Women’s groups give the ladies in our church family special times of interaction. Our women’s groups, located in several locations throughout our community, are times of Bible study, prayer (and, of course, food). These groups provide a refreshing discipleship opportunity for the women in the church.
Accountability among men is an act of integrity. Accountability is designed to protect, encourage, and develop men of all ages. Accountability groups consist of three men each. Accountability groups meet together as their schedules allow and keep in touch by email or phone.
Missions Ministry
First Baptist Church places great emphasis on our mission efforts. We believe worldwide evangelism is essential and are committed to ministering beyond the four walls of our church.
We support the American Baptist Mission Board by giving a portion of our weekly tithes and offerings. We sponsor three major mission offerings each year: America for Christ, One Great Hour of Sharing, and World Missions. On July 29, 2019 FBC was honored with a Certificate of Appreciation for the level of commitment to West Virginia Baptist Convention Missions in 2018.
With an invigorated spirit toward missions FBC plans to exceed previous tithes and offerings for the express purpose of ensuring multiple means of spreading the Gospel are accomplished. We gladly accept the challenge by Jesus in Matthew 28:19-20 to reach out into all the world with his message of love, redemption and promise through disciple making.
We are committed to supporting state and community programs such as Camp Cowen, Weirton Christian Center, North Central Community Action, and Helping Hand Clearing House.
We are in partnership with Randolph County Habitat for Humanity International, instrumental in establishing the local affiliate, and they have now teamed up with the Emergency Mobilization Plan of Randolph County. This program is for equipping people in the area in the event of emergency situation developing.
We support and encourage our membership to actively participate in mission projects locally, nationally and around the globe.
Sunday Morning Bible Study
Adult Sunday School begins at 9:30 am. New classes coming soon. Come learn how to be a disciple and how to disciple others.
We currently offer five different Sunday School classes, which is sure to meet any interest you may have. The Sunday morning Bible study is an intimate time with friends discussing relevant biblical principles, growing in life application together, and encouraging one another with the Word of God. The various groups share life together outside of class too through social events and opportunities for Christian service in the church and in the community. If you are looking to belong, be loved, and grow friendships these small groups are just what you are looking for.
